Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Ivy Tutor test prep professional?

An Ivy Tutor test prep professional is a tutor who embodies three key areas of tutoring mastery: intimate knowledge and understanding of the content, ability to efficiently communicate ideas, and a presence that inspires a student to achieve. Ivy Tutors do not just have an ability to tutor; they are naturally gifted explainers with a dedication to the craft of tutoring.

When should my student start preparing for the SAT, ACT, or Subject Test exams?

Parents should begin the test preparation process during the summer of their student’s junior year. We encourage parents between grade 8 and 10 to contact an Ivy Tutor college advisor for a brief consultation to learn how to best position students for admissions to the schools of their choice.

Is there a set schedule for my student’s ACT, SAT, or Subject Test tutoring package?

There is no set schedule. Ivy Tutor recommends meeting once per week. For students contacting us later in the process,
we recommend meeting twice per week.

Do you offer sessions online and in-person?

Ivy tutor believes that the most effective tutoring is done in person, but Ivy Tutor will meet online if in-person meeting is not practical or advisable.

How long is the average session? Can I schedule shorter or longer sessions for my student?

Ivy Tutor recommends 70-minute sessions in most cases. However, each student is different. Ivy Tutor will make a final
recommendation after our initial meeting and consultation.

Does Ivy Tutor guarantee my student’s scores will improve?

To Ivy Tutor, tutoring excellence means increasing a student’s score to a mark that no other resource can improve upon. If
scores do not improve after a student completes the Excellence or Elite package (including 80% of assignments and at least 3 practice tests), Ivy Tutor will persevere at no additional cost.

How do I schedule sessions for my student?

Once you have signed up for a package, our advisor will schedule a regular meeting time. If students are unable to keep
their scheduled time, Ivy Tutor has a dedicated 24/7 scheduling text line for scheduling changes. Cancellation fees may
apply for excessive changes.

Will I receive updates about my student’s progress?

After each session, Ivy Tutor will offer a verbal assessment of the students’ progress and will be there to answer any
additional questions the parent or student may have. Parents can also schedule a phone call progress update.

Do you offer free and unlimited practice tests?

Practice tests are a fundamental component of the test prep and tutoring process. To encourage attendance, Ivy Tutor
does not charge additional fees for in-person practice tests. Practice tests are held every Sunday morning at a Bergen
County classroom location. For Manhattan students who are unable to travel to Bergen County, Ivy Tutor will coordinate
practice tests at a fee.
